With live music on hiatus and not much else to do, bands had a lot of unexpected down time in the Worst Year Ever™ to write new music. It looks like 2021 is shaping up to be quite a fruitful year to hear that music, as we're already anticipating at a stacked line up of new albums. That being said, it seems that psych rock prodigies King Buffalo take the home the award for both maximum ambition and productivity in 2020, as they recently announced that they'll be releasing not one, not two, but THREE new full-length albums this year. We are stoked to premiere the first single "Hebetation" from the first planned album, The Burden of Restlessness, which drops on June 4.
King Buffalo has always had a penchant for weaving deep grooves and heady atmospheres into tightly composed songs, and these qualities are very much present on this new jam. However, "Hebetation" definitely has a darker vibe than some of this heavy trio's previous output, and that likely has a lot to do with under the circumstances in which it was written. Frontman Sean McVay comments on the album:
The Burden of Restlessness was written over the course of what most would consider a pretty stark and stressful time period. The end result is our darkest, most aggressive, and most intimate work to date. We are extremely proud of what this record became.
Pre-orders for The Burden of Restlessness should be available soon. The band has also announced a handful of tour dates beginning in the fall of this year; here's hoping that the world is back to something of a normal state by then and we'll have a chance to see these new songs in a live setting.
