Bands like Wretched Fate and labels like Redefining Darkness remind me why I love death metal. Brutal, underground and willing to go for the throat, Wretched Fate is the sort of band who speak to the sort of inherent darkness of the genre.
The horror movie inspired madness and high powered sonic assault of this latest offering, 'Taker Of Souls' ripped straight from their upcoming release Fleshletting speaks to everything that the band has been crafting over the last few years. This is the sort of thrashy death metal that you simply don't get any more and hearing it delivered with this level of panache is a testament to a music that has kept freaks like us captivated for decades. Digging into this wretched bloodfeast will capture the imagination of any gore obsessed metal maniac.
The band had this to say:
'Taker of Souls' is a concoction of multiple passions, including Mats (guitars) interest in horror movies and admiration of break-neck-speed greats such as Dark Angel and Vomitory. Consequently, it’s an obvious homage to the horror movie franchise EvilDead, violently pummeled forth with absolute ferocity! The song was written with the intention of being straight to the point and being catchy while remaining relentless at the same time. Chanting words from the Necronomicon helped bring in some of that memorability. When the song first was conceived, we knew we wanted to have some samples from the movies in addition to the obvious lyrical references. After some time, we decided to make our own samples for various reasons, recruiting a friend of ours to record the female screams as well as to recite lines from the movies along with Mats. 'Taker of Souls' is one of many horror inspired songs from the album Fleshletting, drawing influence from either movies or historical events when not originally invented.
