Antagony, the band credited with creating deathcore 20 years ago, will release their first record since 2009 titled Ashes on May 24. Ashes consists of songs written between 1998 and 2000 that were never properly recorded or released.
Antagony, now back to their original 1999 lineup of vocalist Nick Vasallo (Oblivion), guitarist Ben Orum (All Shall Perish, Oblivion), vocalist Carlos Saldana (Connoisseur), bassist Bray Almini (ex-Suffokate) and drummer Luis Martinez (Oblivion, ex-The Zenith Passage), did a great job with the re-recordings and are premiering their new version of "The Mystery That Haunts You".
Here's what Vasallo and Orum had to say, in that order.
"'The Mystery That Haunts You' is an old fan favorite. A defining song from early Antagony. Ben Caragol (Burials, Hacksaw to the Throat) said it was 'hard to classify that song' and I think that still rings true. It's bleak, heavy, and emotional."
"It was always one of my favorite songs to play live because of how many emotions it cycles through, people would lose their shit for it! It's amazing to revisit it after 20 years."
Antagony plans on rolling out one track per week up to their comeback show on May 25 at the Oakland Metro in Oakland, CA. Ashes was produced by Vasallo and Zack Ohren (Immolation, Machine Head, Brain Drill, etc.). Get tickets for the show here and pre-order Ashes here.
