Miss Fortune frontman Mikey Sawyer is a total piece of shit. Well, I guess he wasn't convicted so I should say he is allegedly a piece of shit. (Update: Charges have been dropped and the story has been explained. He is not a piece of shit) But let's start from the beginning.
Last night, the band posted on their Facebook page that they would be dropping off their upcoming fall tour:
"Dear fans and friends alike, we are sad and sorry to announce that we will no longer be performing on the Get Real Tour with The Word Alive and others. Sometimes things are just out of our control. We love you all and hope we can see you again. We still encourage you to go out and see The Word Alive and the other bands on the tour."
Shortly after that, their label announced they would be dropping the band and insinuated domestic violence was to blame:
"Sumerian Records has dropped Miss Fortune. We do not condone domestic violence, nor would we ever support an artist that does."
According to Lambgoat, Sawyer was arrested on Oct. 24th in Tulsa, OK on charges of domestic assault and battery. His next court appearance is on November 4th.
After being dropped, the other members of Miss Fortune were quick to distance themselves from Sawyer's actions:
"We'd like to point out that the actions of one band member do not represent the actions and viewpoints of the entire band. Yes our singer Mikey is in jail, but no we DO NOT condone his actions. We DO NOT condone domestic abuse. If you've met anyone of us in person I'm sure you know we're a cool bunch of dudes. Saying Miss Fortune condones domestic abuse is a lie, so stop saying it. Thank you. "
What's odd here is that they have at no point stated that Mikey is no longer in the band, which seems a bit short-sighted. I can't see anybody wanting to work with a band with a dude who just got a domestic abuse rap, especially in today's environment.
Also, I applaud the actions of Sumerian Records acting quickly to wash their hands of this miss. Needless to say, we won't be giving this shitbag any more publicity.
