A potentially scary situation was diffused this weekend in Las Vegas. Ahead of the Life of Agony show at The Beauty Bar in Las Vegas, local teacher Leslie McGourty sent friends text messages that alluded to her killing herself during her favorite song by her favorite band and possibly hurt other attendees of the concert.
One message read "Imagine knowing exactly the moment you're going to die. Knowing exactly that your favorite song will be playing. By your favorite band. It's just too perfect." Another text noted she wanted to "poke a lot of holes in a lot of people."
Other messages she sent to friends including the chilling sentence "I have the means, motive, and brains," adding "Vegas will lose its luster after me." She mentioned the tragic shooting in Vegas last October noting "I think that since what happened here last year with October 1; I think we're all really more aware of what can happen."
Police believed the show McGourty was referring to was the Life of Agony show scheduled to happen this past Saturday, May 19th. The venue was notified of the situation this past Thursday. Beauty Bar noted that they did not have any record of McGourty purchasing a ticket, but planned to beef up security regardless.
On Saturday, Life of Agony posted the show was being cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances."
CBS 8 Las Vegas noted that in the police report that McGourty was arrested last Wednesday. She admitted to sending the texts but claimed she wasn't planning on hurting anybody. She was out on bail before the show was scheduled to take place. She is facing criminal charges. Here is their report on the matter:
