Firefest took place over the weekend on Apr. 19 in Lakewood, OH and had a pretty great lineup that included Unearth and Xibalba among a whole lot of others. Unfortunately, the whole thing didn't end well. Four people were hospitalized with lacerations and stab wounds and twenty people were arrested in connection with the whole thing. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening, but still- going to a show shouldn't involve violence that like!
According to local news reports, police said gunshots were fired at the venue around 7:10 p.m with the brawl taking place inside and including knives, bats and machetes. The second night of the show was shut down completely.
"The second night of Fire Fest in Cleveland got shut down after a fight between SOSF and FSU. The fight happened just before 7:30pm. The police didn't immediately shut down the show. At about 8:45 XRepresentX was allowed to go on but for what ever reason 5 songs into their set Cleveland PD decided to shut the show down all together. As you can imagine lots of folks were unhappy as less than half the bands had played and the club was not offering refunds."
The festival featured performances from Unearth, Winds of Plague, Ringworm, Death Before Dishonor and other acts. Violence at shows seems pretty counterproductive to what the scene is about, no?
