Noa's 6(66) Bands To Look Forward To at 70,000 Tons of Metalby: Noa Avior

As Rob previously mentioned, this month, the most spectacular and greatest thing of all things is going to happen. It's going to start at the ports of Miami, Florida and float down to sunny Cozumel, Mexico and then back. It's going to carry some of the most talented people from around the world. It will allow its inhabitants to revel in gluttony, dance like devils and drink to excess. It will most likely have a diving board. There is an off chance that Chuck Billy may end up on a Banana Boat. No, it's not Utopia. Utopia is a figment of your imagination. This is real, all 70,000 tons of it!

For the first time in U.S. history, a metal cruise will embark, all thanks to the people behind it at 70,000 Tons of Metal. After 3 years in the making, the "Majesty of the Sea" will set sail. On board there will be a four day music festival with a roster of about 40 bands, endless supply of food and alcohol and many other luxuries. And guess who gets to go? THIS GUY! And two other guys you might know, Rob & Frank. We are absolutely honored to have an opportunity to be a part and cover the event for you junkies. Personally, I cannot wait to get the heck out of the cold and just lay around in the sun on different parts of the ship in my bikini pushing BBQ ribs into my face.

EEEEEE! Is for excitement! The lineup for the music portion of the cruise is absolutely ridiculous (The mastermind who booked this: You… Get…. Me!). I'll be able to cross off so many bands off my 'need to see live' list. The next couple of sentences will be about 6 of the 40 bands that I'm looking forward to seeing. Actually, they won't be sentences just me mashing my keyboard in jubilation.

Iced Earth

ICED FUCKING EARTH!!!! WITH MATT BARLOW!!! If they play Melancholy I think I might really die. The nerd inside of me can't contain herself. I've been a fan of Iced Earth since forever ago and I am yet to see them play live. The best part is I'll have a great view and probably get close enough to kiss Jon Schaffer's feet.

Unleashed

Swedish death metal gods UNLEASHED. Me? A jewish girl from Brooklyn, New York… will be getting her skull pounded with ancient Northern Scandinavian folklore on a boat! Imagine that. Only in America… and Mexico technically.

Amon Amarth

I have seen them play live before. I'm not only looking forward to watching them perform again but also to getting tangled in Johan Hegg's beard in the pool.

Sonata Arctica

I can't believe that I will actually have the band around to accompany my off key rendition of Replica as I stumble between eateries.

Sanctuary/Nevermore

Earlier this year, I got a rare chance to interview Jim Sheppard from one of my favorite bands Nevermore. We discussed how the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise is unfathomable but so f'n cool and Jim throughout the interview shared his excitement and the rest of the bands' regarding the upcoming Sanctuary dates. One of them on the boat! They've been rehearsing the last couple of months and as a Nevermore fan I am really pumped to see the final product of all their hard work.

Seriously, the list of awesomeness goes on and on and on. But one band stands out amongst the rest. I am not even sure if this is real because it seems too far fetched to be. But doesn't this whole cruise seem that way too? So here it is. The final band is (insert Frank playing a drum roll on a random object that's in front of him)…

TWILIGHT OF THE GODS

What? Not impressed? Do you realize that this is a Bathory cover supergroup!?
Alan Nemtheanga (PRIMORDIAL)
Blasphemer (AVA INFERI, AURA NOIR, ex-MAYHEM)
Frode Glesnes (EINHERJER)
Nick Barker (BENEDICTION, ex-DIMMU BORGIR, CRADLE OF FILTH)
Patrik Lindgren (THYRFING)

You're freaking out, I know. I've been there man. Reach for your credit card, there are still cabins available. You can experience this! If not this year start saving your pennies for next year. I really hope that this becomes an annual pilgrimage. One that every metalhead has to go on at least once in their lifetime.

There are a few cabins still available and it's not too late to get to booking. If ever there was a time for an extravagant impulse purchase, this is it. More info at 70000tonsofmetal.com. Also, stay tuned in the week of January 24th-28th as we cover the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise right here on Metal Injection while on the ship!
