The legend of the new Tool album is heating up in 2018 from quite a few sources. Drummer Danny Carey has been pretty adamant about the new album coming this year, guitarist Adam Jones says the music is done and lyrics are being written, vocalist Maynard James Keenan was cryptic as usual, and Behemoth frontman Nergal said he's heard the album as an instrumental.
Now a tidbit of information has come from a pretty unlikely source – English director and screenwriter Dominic Hailstone, who has worked with bands such as Mogwai and Isis. According to Hailstone in an interview with Yutani Blog, he says that a new music video should be coming later this year and that Adam Jones gave him "complete artistic freedom so the only constraint was the budget."
"A video for Tool that should be coming out later this year. Adam Jones gave me complete artistic freedom so the only constraint was the budget, we had a lot of fun figuring that out. Other than that Alien Covenant as I was working with friends I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. That was special."
So I guess some new music really is coming this year, huh? Seems a little strange that a music video would be done for music that doesn't have any lyrics, but maybe it's more a visualizer sort of deal.
