MOTLEY CRUE Guitarist Mick Mars Says He Was "Clearly Joking" About His Free Tickets Statement

Motley Crue at their Farewell press conference signing contracts promising to never tour again in 2014

Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars recently got called out for saying if the band performed any reunion shows after their final show in 2015, he'd personally invite the world to attend them for free. Even Steel Panther drummer Stix Zadninia started asking Mars about the free tickets on Twitter! Despite all the press around the statement originally made in 2014, I think I speak for all of us when I say that nobody actually expected free tickets and nobody wanted an apology over there not being free tickets.

Still, Mars gracefully issued a very nice apology via Instagram to fans.

"While I was clearly joking about the free tickets that night on TMS, I was also deeply convinced that we would never ever be touring again. I would never have expected to be facing a whole new generation of fans demanding to see us play. In fact, touring with Motley Crue comes at a weird place in time, since my solo record is almost complete after such a long time or writing and recording. But, I put our fans first. Anyways, I am eating a lot of crow and humble pie this Thanksgiving for those remarks and accept that some of you see this as me being dishonest. I said what I said and I was wrong. Peace."

Motley Crue is actually doing quite the opposite of having free tickets to their shows. A recent report from a promoter in Iowa states that Motley Crue is seeking roughly $3.25 million per night between themselves and openers Def Leppard and Poison. So, if the average ticket price would be $70, it would require at least 46,000 people to break even.

No dates for the reunion tour have yet been announced.
