We got really excited last week when System of a Down announced their first show back in a really long time for a Los Angeles radio station's Christmas fest "KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas."
We pondered if maybe the band might decide to be active again. Well, here is some news that will make us ponder that even harder. The band just announced a new headlining gig for April 25th, 2015 in Moscow at the Olympinsky. That's a lot of time between December and April. Seems pretty trivial that System would fly all the way to Russia for just one show. They'd probably book a few dates around it, no? And maybe since they're all warmed up they could possibly decide to throw in some stateside dates as well?
To add fuel to the fire, shortly after the show was announced, drummer John Dolmayan tweeted this:
Yes, it's true
— John Dolmayan/SOAD (@JohnDolmayan) November 17, 2014
WHAT'S TRUE?!
Is it true that System of a Down is getting back together to tour?
Is it true that System of a Down is getting back together to write a new album?
Is it true that the Kennedy assassination was an inside job? Back and to the left???
Obviously, Dolmayan's cryptic tweet leaves much to the imagination. We do know that he and Shavo are ready to reunite. Dolmayan was hopeful for new music this year but that didn't pan out. But does that mean everybody's schedules have aligned for next year? As we previously reported, Shavo egregiously contemplated the band moving on without Serj a few months ago although those comments were quickly retracted. At the time, Serj was busy with his solo project. A quick check of his solo site reveals no dates for the forseeable future.
Could it be time that System comes back? My body is certainly ready.
