Thanks, Thin Lizzy.

It's hardly a secret that Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett really loves wah pedals. It's been a running joke among rock and metal fans for years now, but how did it all start? What was the moment where Hammett decided that he and wah would be essentially synonymous with one another?

According to Hammett in an interview with Guitar Player Magazine, he first heard wah on Thin Lizzy's 1976 track "Warriors." Hammett also says Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson never got enough credit for his style despite his short time in the band.

"This solo was the first time I’d ever heard a wah pedal. I remember that when that sound came out of the speakers, it startled me. The one guy that I’ve always thought did not get enough credit was Brian Robertson, and his style and feel is something that I aspire to."

Now if Hammett's riffs would just stop getting shot down in Metallica, maybe we'd have even more wah…
