METALLICA's 21-Year-Old Black Album Outsold MEGADETH's New Album, Super Collider This Week

Every week, I like to browse the Billboard Hard Rock/Heavy Metal charts and see how well Metallica's landmark Black Album sells, and every week it pushes at least 1500 copies, which is insane, seeing as though the album came out 21 years ago. To my surprise, directly below the Black Album this week was the new album by MegadethSuper Collider. A two-decade old album by Metallica outsold the new Megadeth record that has only been out for two months.

In case you're wondering about the numbers, Metallica's Black Album sold 1,737 copies this week (its about 97k shy of going 16x platinum).

On the other hand, only 9 weeks on the charts and Megadeth's Super Collider only sold 1,713 copies this week, with a cumulative total of 60,519 copies sold.

Super Collider will barely crack 100,000 sold and that's with Megadeth currently on a big national tour to support the album. The band's previous effort, Th1rt3en cracked 120,000 within a month of release and it doesn't look like this album will come anywhere near that number. This has to be seen as a disappointment for Dave Mustaine's high-spending record label but possibly not Mustaine who seemed happy with the output.
