Our friends at Metalsucks are reporting that Mastodon axeman Bill Kelliher earlier this week. The drama began when a show on their current tour with Between the Buried and Me & Baroness was cancelled. The package was set to be rescheduled for the following day but the venue's website said the show was actually postponed until May because of "ongoing illness with Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher."
Futhermore, MetalSucks is reporting that the tour has resumed without Kelliher. Last night at the Grand Rapids, MI show, Baroness guitarists Peter Adams and John Baizley each stepped in to play two songs with the band — “Oblivion” and “Divinations,” then “Quintessence” and “The Czar,” respectively. Mastodon then continued through their performance of Crack The Skye with just one guitar player. The band totally created a cool moment out of a shitty situation by inviting the Baroness dudes to come up to play with them.
While no official details have been released yet, we sure hope Bill is getting the care he needs so he can return to the road and continue to blast our eardrums with the soothing sounds of Mastodon.
