LINKIN PARK Bassist Says Band Is Healing And Building Its Future

So… is Linkin Park carrying on?

So... is Linkin Park carrying on?

Linkin Park is still reeling from the sudden suicide of frontman Chester Bennington on July 20, and has not spoken extensively about what'll happen to the band. Now in a statement given by bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell via Facebook, he says the band is working on a "special public event in Los Angeles to honor Chester‘s memory."

No word on what that public event is just yet, but the real interesting portion of the statement comes right in the middle of it. It's hard to discern exactly what Farrell means when he says "build the future of Linkin Park," but it's easy to take it as though the band might carry on without Bennington?

Just wanted to say thank you to all our fans around the world for the tremendous outpouring of love, which has strengthened our spirit during this incredibly difficult time.

The five of us are so grateful for all of your support as we heal and build the future of Linkin Park.

We are working on a special public event in Los Angeles to honor Chester‘s memory, and look forward to sharing details with you soon.

Peace and love,
Phoenix and Linkin Park

It'll be interesting to see what happens next. Technically Bennington was the only non-founding member of the band, as he joined in 1998, two years after its formation.

Though this is also one of those cases where Bennington was essentially Linkin Park's identity, so carrying on might be a little weird.
