HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta Starts Twitter Beef With Pop Act CHVRCHES For Being Billed Over GOJIRA At Upcoming DEFTONES Festival

Specifically Deftones' Dia de los Deftones festival.

Deftones recently announced their Dia de los Deftones festival for November 2 at Petco Park in San Diego, CA. The festival is headlined by Deftones, and will be supported by Chvrches, followed by Gojira, JPEGMAFIA, Megan Thee Stallion, Hum, Youth Code, and Brutus. Jamey Jasta, frontman of Hatebreed, saw this and took to Twitter to ponder out loud why Chvrches are playing over Gojira. Or in his own words:

Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira get tha fuuuuuck outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes ??

I’m sure they’re lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher ??✌?

Jasta then went on to talk about how metal isn't properly respected, which I'm not so sure is true, considering Deftones are the ones hosting the festival and their lineup last year was largely hip hop. So if anything, the inclusion of Gojira is a step in the opposite direction toward heavier music. He also took a shot at Chvrches, saying "Bands that play their instruments > track acts. #Facts."

Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry has since responded, saying she's both a fan of Deftones and Gojira, and doesn't really understand where the hate is coming from.

I saw Gojira in Glasgow years ago and have seen Deftones three times so was excited when we got asked to be on the bill. Just because someone plays or listens to “pop music” doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things.

Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.
