EMPEROR Has "Nothing Planned" For More Reunion Shows

An empty throne sucks.

An empty throne sucks.

On Saturday, August 8, Emperor headlined the second night of the UK-based Bloodstock Festival. Afterward, the band toured a little more on the 20th anniversary of their critically acclaimed black metal masterpiece In The Nightside Eclipse. So what's in store for the band's future? Well, nothing according to frontman and guitarist Ihsahn.

"No, there's nothing planned. I mean, that was kind of the main goal for this — to keep it very limited, not get greedy about it or anything, because, obviously, there's quite a lot of money involved. First and foremost, before we even booked one show, we said, 'Okay, let's keep this limited, let's get Faust [Bård Eithun] back in to perform the original drumming, and his style of drumming, and let's not repeat what we did before. Let's do something… This is a celebration for us and those who have a relationship to that album, and just make the most of it, but keep it limited and not overdo anything' … Everybody knows what they're doing and then it's the end and it's all good and it's finished."

As a quick recap, Eithun (Faust) was in the band from 1993 to 1994 until he was was sentenced to a 14-year prison term in 1994 for stabbing Magne Andreassen in Lillehammer, Norway to death in 1992. Eithun completed the original lineup for the  In The Nightside Eclipse shows, joining Ihsahn and guitarist Samoth for the event.

Each of the members of the band are plenty involved in their own projects, so it makes sense that the band has nothing planned right now. The band reunited for shows between 2005 and 2007 before laying it to rest and then again between 2013 and 2014. There have been "ends" to the reunions before (lookin' at you At the Gates and Faith No More). Who is to say it won't happen again?
