Last August, Baroness experienced a horrific bus crash. Thankfully, everybody survived, but it left the band members with broken bones and out of commission for the rest of the year. It seemed the driver of the bus got the worst of the fall, being the most seriously injured. I'm assuming by now he has recovered, only to learn he's going to be charged with multiple offenses in the wake of the accident.
BBC reports that after intense investigation the driver, Norman Markus will be charged with dangerous driving, driving with defective brakes, breaching a 7.5 ton weight limit, insufficient rest periods, and not having the proper license.
This is certainly a surprising development in the Baroness story, as when frontman John Baizley himself recounted the crash recently, he did not seem to blame the driver, stating “There was nothing anyone on the bus could have done during our descent to avoid the crash.”
There is no word in the report on when the driver would be charged or what his punishment would be, but if the bus did have defective brakes and he did not have the proper license, that is surely a reason to have his license revoked and then some.
