Maybe the promoter isn't an asshole. After rumors were abound that Newsted cancelled on his Australian Soundwave gigs earlier this week, we now have confirmation from the man himself:
“NEWSTED METALHEADS- Due to private and personal circumstances, we sincerely regret to inform you that The NEWSTED Band is unable to perform in February & March as scheduled…Our deepest apologies for any inconvenience to you.
We are all gutted by this turn of events. Our hope is that we will have another opportunity to share our Heavy Music with you all again sometime in the near future. I’m sorry, Sisters & Brothers, We were really looking forward to these shows too…

Anyway, a rather vague explanation from the former Metallica bassist, but I'm assuming this is a family issue that they'd rather not get into. If so, our thoughts are with the band. Sorry, Australia!
