A young metalhead is dead after sustaining injuries from a stage dive gone wrong at a Suicidal Tendencies show last week in Switzerland. Other bands on the bill included Terror, Strife and Evergreen Terrace
The young fan, who was 28, dove from the stage and nobody caught him and he hit the ground hard. Security acted immediately, taking him to the on-site emergency unit. The young fan was walking around shortly after, was his hands and "expressed a desire to go home" according to local head of security Pipo Kofmehl, even though security urged him to go to a hospital.
The fan eventually had an epileptic seizure and died on Friday (January 24) at the Bern University Hospital. It's being deemed an accident, but local authorities are still investigating the incident, as is the common case in these situations.
Of course, this situation sounds eerily similar to the recent controversial trial of Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe, where a Czech concert goer sustained injuries from stage diving at a 2010 Lamb of God show and eventually died from internal bleeding. Blythe was arrested and charged with manslaughter, but after a lengthy case, was exonerated of all charges.
Our thoughts are with the fan's family. The lesson to take away here is perhaps reconsider climbing up on stage and jumping off of it because that might be your last stage dive ever.
