This bums me out. Travis Richter announced on his Tumblr yesterday that he decided to leave The Human Abstract. In a statement posted on his Tumblr page, Richter stated his reasons being that he just is over being on the road, and wanted to spend more time with his family and working in audio production. Here is his full statement:
“A couple months ago I told the guys I wasn’t going to tour anymore for a couple reasons. One, I’m turning 30 and have given all my time to bands and the road, and I want to be able to start a family and see my parents and grandparents more. Secondly, I graduated with an audio production degree, and I feel myself being pulled into that world as more of a full time position. I think The Human Abstract is an amazingly gifted group of musicians with mind bending potential and I couldn’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me since I joined the band in feb of 2010. The fans have also been more than amazing and accepted me into the THA family, and for that I sincerely thank you!”
I'm glad to hear there wasn't any crazy drama with the band, as their collective force put out an album that is almost locked in as one of my favorites of this year. As for the band, they are not calling it quits. Metal Insider got word from the band that they have recruited Ryan Devlin for the Frak The Gods tour with Periphery and Textures. Devlin currently sings for San Diego band Corelia. Here is a sampling of what he sounds like (clearly he fits right in with the band):
