Drummer Shannon Lucas Confirms He Is OUT Of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

Things seemed a little fishy in The Black Dahlia Murder camp, when live footage started surfacing from their current tour (dates here) and it did not feature Shannon behind the drumkit for his band.

We wondered if this means it was the end of Shannon as the drummer of the band, turns out our suspicions were correct.

Shannon released a video statement this morning. You can watch it below. If you can't, here are the bullet points:

  • He confirms that he is no longer going to be drumming for The Black Dahlia Murder, and that he even had a hand in picking Alan Cassidy, who is not the band's new drummer, but rather just a temporary replacement.
  • He will be focusing his effort on other projects, including finally tracking drums in January on that highly anticipated collaboration with Adam D. from Killswitch Engage and George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher, that we are really excited about. He also has a grind project in the works.
  • Finally, he said he's planning on opening a tattoo shop outside of Richmond, VA with his wife.

This is certainly a huge bummer to me, as watching Shannon raping his drumkit was always one of the highlights of seeing the Black Dahlia Murder live. But touring life takes its toll on the best of them, and that's probably why Shannon decided he needed a break. This is pure speculation on my part, as it seems that there is no bad blood between both parties.

With that said, I am incredibly excited to hear what else Shannon has in store for my ears. I spoke with Corpsegrinder a few months ago about their side project with Adam D. and he couldn't be more thrilled with how the rough demos were sounding, and if Corpsegrinder is excited, I am definitely excited.

We will certainly keep you posted on Shannon's future projects.
