Spotify Promises "CD-Quality Audio" With New Spotify HiFi Service

Rolling out in select markets later this year.

Spotify is entering the world of hi-fi audio with their new Spotify HiFi service. Starting later this year, Premium Spotify members (in select markets) will have access to the CD-quality, lossless audio format as playback option. So no word on if this is going to affect the pricing for the streaming platform.

Billie Eilish touted the feature during Spotify's event. "High-quality audio means more info," she said. "There are things you will not hear if you don't have a good sound system. It's really important just because we make music that [we] want to be heard in the way that it was made."

Spotify isn't the first to get into the hi-fi world either, as Amazon Music HD recently just came around and Tidal has been doing this since their inception. Still, it'll be really interesting to see how many people end up making the switch from whatever quality they're listening to on Spotify.

It's expected the HiFi service will be priced competitively with other similar services, in the $15 – $20 a month range.

If you're going to splurge on whatever Spotify HiFi ends up costing, please have speakers that are detailed enough that you can actually hear the difference.
