Spotify is rolling out their new, possibly-confusingly named Car Thing in limited quantities across the United States. Car Thing is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – a thing for your car that plays Spotify.
As far as I can tell, Car Thing is a Spotify controller that gets mounted in your car with a big and easy-to-use dial. Car Thing responds to voice command and can be connected to your smartphone, and only works if you have Spotify Premium. Car Thing is available for the cost of shipping right now and is planned to retail for $80.
The big question here is why this thing exists. Car Thing just seems like a glorified Spotify player that takes up extra room in the car and forces people into having Spotify Premium, but that's about it.
