Billboard introduced the Top Rock Albums chart 13 years ago, and this year is the first time that an Asian artist has ever gone to number one. Babymetal's new album Metal Galaxy has moved 28,000 copies, 27,000 of which are in album sales, earning them the top spot. Billboard points out that Babymetal's 2016 record Metal Resistance topped off at the number six position, so it's not like the group wasn't on the rise in a big way prior.
Metal Galaxy is Babymetal's third record overall and also sits at the number 13 spot on the Billboard 200. Metal Galaxy is also the band's first effort without Yui "Yuimetal" Mizuno, who left the group in 2018.
