We've been to both last year's and this year's Orion Music and More festival curated by Metallica. I went the first year, and it was great. Frank went this year in Detroit and also enjoyed himself. But it looks like the band is putting the kabosh on the festival, at least for 2014.
The Detroit News spoke to a rep from the band who confirmed that Metallica will not be bringing Orion back to Detroit in 2014, or anywhere else for that matter. They will be touring in Europe this summer, after spending the first part of the year writing new material.
Metallica have readily admitted that the festival is not profitable, and in a year where the band lost a lot of money, maybe it was the right move.
Although, the article questions if the fest will ever come back. A representive from C3, tour promotion company that puts the fest onwith Metallica, said the fest "may return in 2015 although it is unclear whether it will return to Detroit."
Detroit obviously is a bit more difficult to get to than Atlantic City, the site of the first festival, and neither seemed like glamorous choices for the band.
Are you upset that Orion is not coming back in 2014?
