Evanescence's 2003 hit "Bring Me To Life" never really got out of the limelight. The single has sold over 3 million copies in the United States alone (1.2 million in the United Kingdom), has one 1 billion streams on YouTube, and has been the subject of endless memes over the years. Yet for some reason, nearly 20 years after its release, "Bring Me To Life" is topping the iTunes charts.
"Bring Me To Life" is currently outpacing modern artists like Nicki Minaj and BLACKPINK, as well as Don Mclean's classic "American Pie." Evanescence didn't really have much to say about the newfound success of the song aside from "19 years and still going strong! Bring Me To Life is #1 on iTunes. Thank you for the love!" So why is the song at the top of the charts? Who the hell knows, man. Probably TikTok or something. The Internet is a strange place and things randomly skyrocket for no real actual reason other than "it just did."
The real comedy of this situation is that "Bring Me To Life" skyrocketing to the top of the charts comes right on the heels of Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee recently saying that fans should check out their newer stuff before the old stuff. When asked if there was a song in the group's catalog that closest defines who they are as a band now, Lee said "It wouldn't be from the first album. I feel like we got better after that."
