Three guitars associated with Eddie Van Halen recently sold for $422,050 at the Icons & Idols Trilogy: Rock ‘N' Roll event on JuliensAuctions.com. The news has since hit Eddie's son, Wolfgang, who wanted to make it clear that he had nothing to do with the sale, and it was people taking advantage of his father's death to make a quick buck.
One guitar that was a gift from Eddie to his friend Bryan Cash sold for $231,250, another reportedly played on stage in 2004 went for $140,800, and a third that was used as a prop in the "Hot for Teacher" video went for $50,000. Eddie's son Wolfgang is pretty pissed.
In a series of Tweets, Wolfgang pointed out the guitars were not stage guitars, that he had nothing to do with it, and the timing of the gift guitar seemed a little weird.
He also said the site was "just taking advantage of my father’s passing. What a surprise," which is fair. The timing of this auction is a little… much. The man hasn't even been dead for a year.
