Since the release of their eighth LP, Coma Ecliptic, Between the Buried and Me have been kicking ass on the road. Over the span of five separate tours, the band has been joined by the likes of Animals as Leaders, The Contortionist, Haken, Enslaved, Intronaut, Native Construct, August Burns Red, Good Tiger, and Protest the Hero in support of the record. And just recently, BTBAM will be stacking Devin Townsend and Fallujah on to that list with the 'Transcending the Coma' tour. In light of the announcement, we are proud to present Tommy Giles Rogers' dream tour for your curiosities. The frontman discussed his ideal tour mates, setlists, and other details, which you can view in the full interview below.
What recently formed or relatively new band would you want to open the show?
Native Construct is a new band who’s recently toured with us. I personally don’t listen to a lot of bands like us, but I was very blown away when I heard them and I think they write some really cool music. I’ve also always wanted to tour with Zombi. I think they’re definitely a cool band. And Secret Chiefs 3, I’ve always liked.
And which band that you’ve known for quite awhile would you want to also be included in the package?
I would love to tour with Opeth again. They are on a bit of a hiatus right now though. I think they’re a great band. We toured with them and Dream Theater before, but I think it’d be cool to tour with them again where we are more dominant in the package.
If you had to pick one song from each album to be included in the setlist, which would they be?
- Between the Buried and Me – Either “Fire for a Dry Mouth” or “Shevanel Cut a Flip”
- The Silent Circus – “Lost Perfection A) Coulrophobia and B) Anablephobia”
- Alaska – “Autodidact”
- The Anatomy Of – “Geek U.S.A." by The Smashing Pumpkins
- Colors – “Ants of the Sky”
- The Great Misdirect – “Disease, Injury, Madness”
- The Parallax – “Lunar Wilderness”
- The Parallax II: Future Sequence – “Extremophile Elite”
- Coma Ecliptic – “The Ectopic Stroll"
If there was a surprise guest appearance from another band, who would it be?
Mike Patton.
Which three countries would have to be included in the run?
I’ve always wanted to go to India. But if we’re trying to make most sense financially for the band, I would choose US, Canada, and Australia.
Any specific venues from those that you would have to perform at?
I’ve always liked The Orange Peel in North Carolina. I also really enjoyed the North Park Observatory in San Diego.
And lastly for any ideal visual component, what would you want?
If I had it my way, it would be a full on show. I want lots of fire and actors performing on a stage above us.
