There are so many slam (brutal death metal, for those so inclined) bands out there that you'd be forgiven for writing the genre off as completely over saturated. The forefathers of the genre are still churning out releases that constantly end up on year end lists but the new crop of talent is rife with soundalike acts that really don't have much to say. Thankfully, there are bands like Vulvodynia that are dishing out some deliciously heavy music, all the way from South Africa.
The brainchild of several young South African metalheads, Vulvodynia play death metal with a gusto not often seen these days. Far from being predictable, their material maintains a brutal edge that has merited guest appearances from reputable vocalists Jason Evans (Ingested) and Luke Griffin (Acrania). A hearty mix of electronics and downright ugly beatdowns keep everything above board for fans of truly brutal music. Complete with sci-fi and horror samples, Vulvodynia's discography already contains some of the tightest musicianship around. You're going to be hard pressed to find better brees, breakdowns and blasts on either side of the Atlantic.
The young South Africans have a new concept album titled Finis Omnium Ignorantiam out later this year (check out the first single "New World Order" below) but in the meantime, jump over to their Bandcamp and check out Cognizant Castigation. The album comes in an instrumental version as well, for all your vocal cover needs!
