Veil of Maya have been teasing the fact they'd be releasing a new song tonight (midnight of October 31) all week, an it's finally here! Come listen to "Subject Zero," or what I'm convinced is their best song in a long time.

Right off the bat you'll notice that the song is five minutes. A longer song is something the band has struggled to do since their 2008 record The Common Man's Collapse, so I'm immensely happy that they've come back to a longer form of writing and not just riff salad like their 2012 record Eclipse. The bottom line with Veil of Maya (for me at least) is that the ideas are too good to be one-offs and it's about time they're making full use of them.
I'd go as far as saying the band picked up where Born of Osiris left off with The Discovery even since it incorporates a lot of the same elements in a really unique and interesting way.
The band said about the song on their Facebook:
We are very happy to re-sign with Sumerian Records. We have built a long-lasting relationship with the people there, and believe that they are stronger then ever. We couldn't see our band going anywhere else after our history, so therefore Sumerian has been and will continue to be the label the band calls home.
As a band, we feel like we have grown tremendously. We are all ready, focused and want to put out the hardest material possible. The new stuff that has been written is some of the best Veil yet. We are really excited to see everyone out on our next headlining tour. We feel this tour is a great mix of bands, most of which haven't been to America before, so let's make sure they feel welcomed here. We are stoked for everyone to hear the new track we just released and see what we have been preparing. Expect a new VOM full length album in 2014 via Sumerian Records. See you all soon.
The song will be available for download on November 11th.
