The Wednesday Sludge: ATONE Is The Slow Agonizing Death You've Been Waiting For

Occasionally, Nic Huber dissects the heavy riffs of bands — new and old — in The Wednesday Sludge. It's been a while since the last column. So to make up for things, here is one of the best EPs of the year.

I originally stumbled upon Atone's debut self-titled EP while casually browsing Transylvanian Tapes' Bandcamp page. The artwork's minimalism caught my eye, and the words "Featuring members of Body Void and Swamp Witch" intrigued me to say the least.

Atone, by their own standards, create "punishing sludge." That is not an understatement either, as these sludge purveyors will drag your body through the murk and leave it pulsating from the wall of low-tuned chunky groove.

Featuring Body Void's Will Ryan and Parker Ryan on guitar and bass, and Swamp Witch's Ura and Zak McCune on vocals and drums, Atone is every bit as agonizing as the bands its members are known for.
