The new jam "The Ocean" by The Absence is way badass in a way that I can't quite explain. Think about everything you love about Scar Symmetry guitar wizard Per Nilsson. Now multiply that.
Oh damn, this is everything I wanted it to be and so much more since we announced it was coming. So the introductory riffs start off with a serious middle-eastern twinge to them, only to give way to driving double bass and… some serious groove. And I'm loving every second of it. I love that the band didn't take a "stupid fast" approach with Per and instead really took some time to apparently sit down and write with him. If this is anything like the album is going to be, then sign me right the hell up because I'm interested one-thousand-fold. This is everything I want out of Scar Symmetry (whose entire discography I'll defend to the death) and The Absence. Flawless victory!
