Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

Today I’m focusing on the quite recently released EP, Ostriched Existence, from Japanese technical brutal death metal mindfuckers Shinda Saibo No Katamari which was put out by Lord of the Sick Recordings. For anyone who has been following this space, I last covered the group in 2019 when they dropped their fantastic debut album, Saibogu.

Once again, Shinda Saibo No Katamari delivers chaotic and unorthodox technical brutal death metal that sets itself apart from almost all of their peers. Looking back at what I said about the project in 2019, it still rings thoroughly true for Ostriched Existence that "….the group mixes strains of chaotic and inventively brutal forms of tech-death in unpredictable ways that are pretty damn hard to pin down or foresee what will happen next in any given song. Somehow, in spite of the writing never being straightforward, this really is well written enough to flow with a sense of excitement and purpose where the spastic nature of it adds to the experience as opposed to feeling jarring in a bad or boring way." If you need a more crystallized ballpark to think about, imagine Wormed and early-era Cryptopsy joining forces with Defeated Sanity and Malignancy. That's pretty close to the overall sound and style eviscerating your ears non-stop after the ostrich-themed sound clip ends on opener "Flightless One" all the way to the end of closer "Infected Ostrichment".

2020 has been a standout year for the technical brutal death metal scene, so if you don't know Shinda Saibo No Katamari, it'll be worth your time to rectify that and find another killer release from this year by hitting play below on Ostriched Existence. If you're into the release, orders can be placed through their label. You can follow the group over on the Shinda Saibo No Katamari Facebook Page.
