Soilwork / The Night Flight Orchestra vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid and The Agonist singer Vicky Psarakis have teamed up on a new song in collaboration with Gear Gods’ head honcho and In Virtue guitarist/vocalist Trey Xavier.
The track, which finds the two singers exploring more of a traditional rock sound than the bands they’re best known for (The Night Flight Orchestra excepted… this song is right in line with that!), is part of audio software company Toontrack’s Rocktober month, which puts the focus on the company’s arsenal of songwriting and recording tools geared towards rock musicians (Metal Month is on deck for November).
The video is the latest entry in an ongoing Gear Gods series that focuses on the songwriting process by literally rolling dice to select different drum grooves from Toontrack’s libraries for each part of a newly constructed song (one roll for the intro, one roll for the verse, chorus, etc.). Trey then wrote a song on top of the dice-determined drum structure and sent it to Björn and Vicky to do their thing.
And the results are incredible! The song is killer. As is the unique and illustrative window into all three musicians’ creative processes.
You can give the video a watch below. The finished song appears at the 32:00 mark if you get impatient… but the entire video is a highly worthwhile watch for any songwriters out there.
