Since 2001, Canada's Revenge has been responsible for some of the most gnarly, savage black/death metal that's ever been committed to record. Formed by drummer and vocalist J. Reid (ex-Conqueror) and guitarist Vermin (ex-Axis of Advance), the band has waged a 15 year war against all that's good and decent in the world. Over the course of four releases and numerous EPs and splits, the duo have repeatedly proven their penchant for rampaging war metal knows no bounds, and their latest release, Behold.Total.Rejection, sounds like more of the same.
Revenge has never been about musical progression, so, if you're familiar with the band, you already know what to expect. The first taste of Behold.Total.Rejection is a track called "Wolf Slave Protocol," and it's peak Revenge. The track is blastbeats and unhinged guitar soloing all the way down. And those vocals. J. Reid, who's responsible for studio vocals, has really outdone himself here. His screams are exceptionally harsh, but it's the low, gurgling vocals that really make this song. Listen to the track on a decent pair of headphones at a high volume and try not to wretch at the sound of Reid's vomit-gargling performance. The whole song is fantastically repulsive and fans of hateful noise should really be looking forward to this album. The release date for Behold.Total.Rejection is November 11th and Season of Mist is the label responsible for releasing the plague upon mankind. Stream "Wold Slave Protocol" below, but don't say I didn't warn you.
