As we await Pelican's new record, the band has given us quite a lot to chew on. Pelican has announced they'll release a new 7" called Midnight And Mescaline on Record Store Day 2019, or April 13. The band describes the title track as a "unrelenting riff marathon," while the B-side "Darkness On The Stairs" takes on "the band member’s shared roots in the late ‘90s [punk] DIY music scene."
Additionally, Pelican has re-released their 2013 record Forever Becoming. The record was remixed and remastered and features the Japanese bonus track "Bardo." The reissue is out digitally now and will be out physically soon.
Initially recorded by Chris Common under optimal conditions at Chicago’s Electrical Audio, Forever Becoming was mixed in less-than-ideal circumstances at a makeshift studio in Los Angeles, yielding mixes that varnished the incredible tones generated during tracking. When the subject of a vinyl repress came up, Common, now helming his own proper studio, asked for another crack at mixing the album. The result brings a new level of low-end depth, atmospheric clarity, and tight, punchy heaviness to the album. Vinyl pre-orders are coming soon and is available from all digital retailers and streaming services now.
