HEDVIG MOLLESTAD TRIO's New Album Is The Jazzy Norwegian Instru-metal You Needed Today

FFO: Black Sabbath, King Crimson.

Norway! A country that's usually followed up in song premieres with words such as "fuckin' evil" and "black metal," though this time around the former applies much more than the latter. Enter the Hedvig Mollestad Trio, a band that blends that Black Sabbath riffs with a psychedelic jazz touch into something that's completely its own.

I've been given the privilege to premiere the band's new album, Black Stabat Mater, today, and honestly, I'm having a hard time listening to much else, It oozes 1970s-styled progressive rock with plenty of fuzz and modern doom tossed into the accumulating puddle of tie-dye sludge.

The Hedvig Mollestad Trio will be releasing its fourth album, titled Black Stabat Mater, this Friday via Rune Grammofon. You can pre-order it right here, and if you like what you hear, be sure to grab the band's forthcoming live album Evil In Oslo here as well!
