Much like Missouri, Florida is beginning to reopen again, including its beaches. The state has decreed beaches open, while some cities like Miami, where the outbreaks are more severe, are still keeping beaches closed. One Florida man took it upon himself to protest, by dressing up as the grim reaper in the Flordia panhandle on Friday.
Daniel Uhlfelder is the man under the mask, and WMBB 13, a local ABC affiliate have him the hot mic to explain why he was protesting. Here's the transcription, but it really does the footage no justice (just below)
“I’m here today to try to make a point that we need to — I think it’s premature that we open our beaches. I’m a huge proponent of public beaches and I’ve been fighting for that for years, but I think that the danger of bringing all the people here to our area and spreading the virus, I think it’s going to prolong the recovery we have and I think that we should take better measures. We’re drawing people from all over the world to our beautiful beaches. It’s too soon and it’s not appropriate.”
Come on, Daniel. Your protest can use some more guttural vocals.
Florida is the eighth most affected state for coronavirus infections based on data from Worldometer, with over 36,000 cases reported, 600 in the last day alone.
