There's been a lot of really cool tech death coming from Philly in recent years, bands like Rivers Of Nihil and Black Crown Initiate originate only a few short miles from the Bucks County metal militia that is Parius. Though it's been a minute since we've heard from these fine young men, their last release being 2015's Dethklok-worshipping Saturnine, the dudes have clearly been using their time to enhance their songwriting and come more fully into their own as a potent death metal force. There is something truly exciting about the power behind the riffs here and the bands use of clean vocals suggests a bold new future for a group I've been following for years now. Parius have always had a flair for the bombastic and it seems like Let There Be Light is the logical next step for a band who seem to want to take on the world.
The band had this to say:
While working on Let There Be Light, we aimed to write some catchy death metal tunes that embody the roots of the genre, without dismissing modern elements entirely. It was important to us not to get caught up in the recent trend of competitive technicality in metal, and instead place a primary focus on songwriting. After tracking rhythm guitars, I thought that the songs deserved better lead work than I felt like I could deliver at the time. We reached out to two of our favorite guitarists, and we feel very humbled and gracious that they were kind enough to contribute to this EP. We're also very excited to introduce Kenny Rentz on bass, whose contributions to the band speak for themselves. As a relatively terse release, Let There Be Light simply aims to prove ourselves as songwriters worthy of keeping an eye on as we prepare our next release.
Jam it!
