Godspeed You! Black Emperor originally released All Lights Fucked On The Hairy Amp Drooling in 1994 on 33 cassette tapes as a three-piece consisting of of Efrim Menuck, Mauro Pezzente, and Mike Moya. The album was presumed lost for years until February 4, 2022, at which point a rumored copy of the record finally surfaced online. Godspeed You! Black Emperor's label Constellation Records refused to comment on if the leak was real or not, which of course spurred discussion on its authenticity given fake copies surfacing over the years.
Then this morning, February 14, Godspeed You! Black Emperor confirmed that the copy was real by posting it on their Bandcamp.
"this was a retirement letter, recorded spring/summer/fall summer of 1993. all of it by efrim, and a little bass from mauro," said the band. "vocals on $13.13 by d.c., acoustic gtr. snippet and backwards hash by dan-o. no relation to the band that followed. all proceeds from sales going to the CJPME's campaign to provide medical oxygen to the Gaza Strip. be gentle. xoxoxox efrim"
Menuck later added in an episode of the Kreative Kontrol podcast that the tape is "not Godspeed [as we know them today], and it feels disrespectful to my friends who I've played music with for almost 30 years to be presenting this thing that was just me and a tiny room, you know?"
