Vanity, formerly known as Vanity Draws Blood, drew plenty of attention with its 2016 EP Perspective // Dread, which featured Thy Art Is Murder frontman CJ McMahon. Now the band is back with a new EP Perspective // Empathy out this Friday, and it really ought to put the band out even further into the limelight! Seriously, the EP draws the line between poppier synth-heavy metal and hardcore, and it's just so, so good.
Here's what the band had to say about the release.
"Perspective // Empathy is a very personal release for us. We wanted to push ourselves out of our comfort zone to create something that shows a more vulnerable side to ourselves, as well as enabling a person to feel that they can relate to it. The lyrical content draws from our own individual experiences and the music brings the atmosphere to life. We wanted to maintain the heaviness of our music but add a softer touch to reflect the theme of this EP. This is a direct sequel to Perspective // Dread with references in the songs to bridge the gap between the two. We took influences from bands such as Novalists, Northlane and Periphery among many other styles and genres of music. As we all have our own individual music tastes, it helps us to create something more unique."
