As far as metal goes, Poland is generally more known for being home to some of death metal's greatest names, but it would appear they're catching up in the stoner/doom side of things as well. There's been a crop of quality doom bands coming out of Poland recently, one of which is Wroclaw's Spaceslug. Last year's Time Travel Dilemma made waves in the stoner metal underground, and this Friday, they'll drop their third album Eye the Tide, which can be heard in full below.
Eye the Tide is a doom-laden odyssey through outer space that pulls from a vast pool of influences, including post rock and prog, and is an album that is wholly unique in the stoner metal stratosphere. It marks Spaceslug's third full-length in three years, and is a continuation of the journey traveled with their previous two albums. Guitarist Bartosz Janik explains:
“It took us just four months to create our first album, Lemanis, and we wanted it to be more than just a project. We wanted it to be a journey into another dimension. With Eye the Tide, we want this third part of the cosmic journey to explore the deepest and darkest parts of that universe. The album itself is more progressive and post-rock than anything we’ve done before as we always want to turn that next corner when it comes to making music.”
If you consider yourself a stoner/doom junkie but complain about a lack of originality within the genre, Spaceslug is a band to keep your ears on. Eye the Tide can be pre-ordered over at the band's Bandcamp page.
