Footage Surfaces Of PHILIP H. ANSELMO AND THE ILLEGALS Covering PANTERA And SUPERJOINT RITUAL Live

Back in July it was revealed that Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals would be performing Pantera's "Death Rattle" on their upcoming (current) tour. What we didn't know is the band would be jamming some material from the almost-ten-years-defunct Superjoint Ritual as well, and man does it sound awesome!

Mike Holderbeast, the guy who filmed and posted the above video, chose a great show to catch the band at. First of all, the choice to mash up "Death Rattle" with Superjoint Ritual's "Fuck Your Enemy" off their 2002 record Use Once and Destroy and is a great one. Separately the songs are angry, but back-to-back like that is just mental. It helps that the band are right on top of the performance and Phil sounds righteously pissed off, which brings me to the second (final) item on my short list- holy shit does Phil sound great live. Not to say that he hasn't sounded great in the past, but this video is four minutes of pure anger.

The track is definitely reminiscent of old-school Superjoint, featuring their signature sludgy New Orleans sound.

Nothing's changed. Superjoint is still pissed off.
