First off, shout out to Five Finger Death Punch frontman Ivan Moody for giving us a shout out, with perennial Metal Injection favorite Phil LaBonte. We're not sure why Moody loves us so much, maybe because we reported on that on-stage meltdown the band had a few weeks back, insinuating they may have broken up. But we don't hate Five Finger Death Punch… hate is a strong word.
I wouldn't personally put on their tracks but I understand their place in the metal world. They're a gateway band. This is a band that finds somebody looking for harder rock. This person hears 5FDP on the radio and then goes to see them live at Mayhem Fest. Hopefully, that person is then exposed to more underground metal and becomes a lifer. That's the band's place in the metal and hard rock world today.
That becomes even more apparent with the release of their new single, "Jekyll & Hyde," which was released earlier today via Monster Energy drink's website:
Five Finger Death Punch's new album, Got Your Six comes out August 28th.
