Lords Of Chaos, the film about the 90s black metal scene and all its insanity, drew a lot of mixed opinions in the metal community. Some felt like it was too much of a distortion on what really happened, while folks like Behemoth's Nergal said the film should be taken as a Hollywood retelling. We even interviewed director Jonas Åkerlund about it and about all the comments being made.
Now in an interview with The Offering, Dark Funeral guitarist Lord Ahriman says he thinks the movie will attract a whole new fanbase to the black metal genre. He also echoes what Nergal said in that Lords Of Chaos was very much just a movie, and should not be viewed as a documentary.
"Of course, it's going to attract a whole new audience [for black metal] and a lot of new people for sure. Other than that, I don't know. It's a weird movie. The only thing I kind of feared was the chaos that was around at that time, and all the partying that was going on and stuff like that. [Those] were things that I could connect to and recognize, but it was a lot of things that I felt was a little bit maybe not 100 percent correct. It was not a documentary. As a movie, it was fine. Let's leave it like that."
