Nobody is going to try to convince you that Willie Nelson plays metal music, but his vibe, his lifestyle – very metal. Willie is one of the most visible advocates for marijuana for over 50 years now, and today a shocking revelation: Willie has stopped smoking pot.
Houston’s KSAT TV interviewed Nelson who revealed that health issues forced him to stop. “I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful,” Nelson explained.
Early in his life, Nelson smoked cedar bark and then went onto cigarettes and noted that the combo "almost killed me."
Nelson has been cancelling numerous dates over the years due to breathing issues. “I used to smoke two or three packs of cigarettes a day and drank whatever there was there to drink and I had pneumonia for or five times, my lung collapsed, I almost died, so I said, ‘Wait a minute, I ain’t getting that high off of Chesterfields,’ so I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joints, stuck it in there, and I haven’t had a cigarette since,” Nelson said at the time.
Nelson has decided to give up smoking altogether. “I don’t smoke anymore – I take better care of myself,” Nelson told KSAT TV. But that doesn't mean Nelson has given up on pot completely.
Nelson has said he still enjoys marijuana in other forms. As for rumors of his demise, Willie ain't afraid of no deaht. “I don’t give a fuck, I’m here, I’m glad to be here,” and with a smile added, “I’m lucky to be here.”
Hang in there, Willie!
