November means one thing and one thing only: METAL MONTH. We’ve once again teamed up with Toontrack this month to bring you all manner of metal goodness; from the latest and greatest in gear to contests, prizes, and so, so much more. You might remember our Drumception contests from the past couple of years, which featured the incredible playing of both Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier and Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, so this year we’ve joined forces with TESSERACT drummer Jay Postones to bring you the Guitarception: TesseracT Drum Challenge!
This year’s contest is a little different than the previous two years: this time, YOU’RE writing the drums! That’s right, TesseracT guitarists Acle Kahney and James Monteith have written a guitar riff that needs drums to go along with it, and it’s up to you to come up with the gnarliest drum groove you can! As usual, when it comes to TesseracT, it’s a little tricky. The riff can be interpreted in numerous ways, so let your creativity run free on this one!
The rules to enter are simple: download all the materials you’ll need here and program the drums using software (like EZdrummer 2 or Superior Drummer 3) or if you’re a drummer, go ahead and play it on e-drums or acoustic drums! Don’t own any drum programming software? Download the free and fully working EZdrummer 2 10-day trial version here. Record your drum groove to the guitar riff and upload it to Soundcloud or YouTube. Then, fill out the form over at Gear Gods and include the link to your submission.
If you need inspiration, check out Trey’s example groove on Soundcloud here. Submissions may not alter the tempo or anything else about the guitar track. Prizes will include some must-have Toontrack metal awesomeness, and there will be one grand prize winner and two runners-up, and the winners will be chosen after the deadline on Sunday, December 2nd at 11:59pm EST.
We can’t wait to see what you come up with. Good luck, and happy drumming! That link again: ENTER HERE.
