Break Bread With France's FANGE Over Their Harsh New Song, "Agapes"

The Rennes-based sludge/noise quartet broadens their scope and focuses their rage on a punishing new track.

Throatruiner Records is based out of Rennes, France and has built up quite a bit of notoriety since 2009. The label has developed a penchant for releasing frenzied, violent music from bands like Plebeian GrandstandVermin Womb, and Cowards. At the helm of Throatruiner is Matthias Jungbluth. The label owner, and Calvaiire member, also belongs to the roster's sludge/noise outfit, Fange. Historically, the quartet has regularly released music every year since 2014. Thankfully, 2017 will not be any different. A second, full-length album, named Pourissoir, will drop in March. It follows up their vicious debut LP, Purge (the first release to feature Jungbluth on vocals.) Today, Metal Injection is excited to present a new track from this upcoming album.

"Agapes" continues Fange's widespread sonic onslaught felt initially by Purge. With an artillery of dissonant feedback and d-beat tempo, guitarist Benjamin Moreau and drummer Boris Louvet build a massive wall of sound. In addition, the three-vocalist approach of Jungbluth, Moreau, and Jean-Baptiste Lévêque compose a triplet of gritty, spitting tones. Their vitriol buttresses an already frenzied display soaked in HM-2. Furthermore, an interesting motif appears in "Agapes." Tinges of metallic hardcore appear in this new song. Fange has expressed a desire to step outside of their comfort zone. Their success in branching out and tackling new domains is signified by the incorporation of well-timed and tempered breakdowns into the mix. This theme is regularly apparent throughout the quartet's new work (see this previously released track for more examples.)

Fange's second studio album, Pourissoir, is released on March 17 through Throatruiner Records and Lost Pilgrims Records in Europe. Those who are stateside can snag the album from Deathwish, Inc. Follow Fange on Facebook and if possible check them out at these upcoming European tour dates.
