Lemmy Kilmister was only 70 years old

This is one of those times I am genuinely speechless. After a long, arduous battle for his health over the past year, Motorhead founder Lemmy Kilmister has passed away, just days after his 70th birthday (Dec. 24th).

The news spread on Twitter from metal personalit Here's what metal legends and personalities Ozzy, Mike Portnoy, Eddie Trunk and Jim Breuer (and wrestler Triple H) have said via Twitter, confirming Lemmy's passing. Motorhead's Facebook page just also confirmed the news. Update: Motorhead's manager revealed that Lemmy found out he had tumors in his brain and neck two days before he died. All the info here.

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made its way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

Have a drink or few.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.

HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

Here's to a man whose legend will live on forever, who lived right up to his last days telling the reaper to piss off, and whose music will never, ever die. I absolutely cannot believe this day has come. I'd say 'Rest Easy, Lemmy," but that motherfucker is about to make the afterlife go deaf.
