Satirical website The Hard Times (basically punk and metal's The Onion) has been purchased by Sumerian Records. According to a statement from The Hard Times and Hard Drive CEO and founder Matt Saincome issued on December 14, the two websites will now have their own print magazines, comic book collaborations, and animated versions of articles.
So we'll see how that goes. I guess this also isn't too surprising considering The Hard Times was having some financial issues earlier this year. Saincome's statement is in full below.
"Good news! Hard Times and Hard Drive are now owned by Sumerian Entertainment, who want to make animated versions of our headlines, print versions of our magazines (!), and comic book collabs with our favorite bands/games," wrote Saincome.
"Our team will remain in place, but be joined by all of Sumerian's infrastructure to attempt these things. When we launched this thing 10 years ago we thought only a small group of our friends in the punk scene would enjoy it. It's truly wild that our content has been enjoyed by so many people, including people who made music or games that are so important to us.
"So thank you to everyone who has contributed jokes, shared a headline, or even just took time out of their day to track down where I live and threaten to kill me because we published a joke you didn't like. You are all equally important to me and I look forward to continuing to engage in this very normal world of online content for another 100 years."
